- SM02.71: Technology Policy and Planning, 3(3-0) (Average Number of students (both audited and credited): 10) (Average Final Grade: B) This course presents the rationale and framework for technology policy formulation and planning. It will also discuss the nature of government intervention and legal provision in the industries related to high technology and how the industries and private sector react to different types of public policy. The course will also cover many topics and examples of current interest related to technologies, including telecommunications policy, energy policy, environmental protection policy, and healthcare policy.

This course is designed to provide students with a balanced view of management and technology. Students will learn how to apply information technologies (IT)/ information systems (IS) to solve critical business problems in the real business world.
- SM73.71: Information Technology in Public Organizations, 3(3-0)(Average Number of students (both audited and credited): 30)(Average Final Grade: B) The goal of this course is to provide an introduction to IT for students headed for work in public or nonprofit organizations. This course is therefore heavy on the hands-on technology but will also cover some substantive topics related to the management of IT. Students will gain an understanding of some important issues related to IT planning and management and some systems analysis skills. The class will rely in part on case studies. The majority of the materials are on public sector IT.
