Assurance of Learning: Learning Goals and Learning Objectives

I. MBA Learning Goals and Learning Objectives

  1. Problem solving skills. Students should be equipped with knowledge to understand and analyze macro-environment affecting business, industry and organizations and are able to apply the knowledge to solve problems. Two learning objectives for this learning goal are:
    1.1 Students can pinpoint problematic areas and analyze the root cause of the problems.
    1.2 Students demonstrate the abilities to provide short-term and long-term solutions.
  2. Integration of Business Functions. Students demonstrate their skills in integrating all business functions, including, Human Resources Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance and Operations Managements. Two learning objectives for this learning goal are:
    2.1 Students have sufficient knowledge in various business functions to enable integration in an organization.
    2.2 Students demonstrate their abilities to relate various business functions in an organization.
  3. Ethics. Students should always focus on good corporate governance practices, business ethics and corporate social responsibility on various stakeholders of the corporation. Two learning objectives are:
    3.1 Students have demonstrated concern of business ethics and can apply code of conducts and good corporate governance practices in doing business.
    3.2 Students demonstrate concern for the society and can initiate CSR activities.
  4. Leading Change. Students are taught to spot the emerging trends of changes in the macro environmental factors i.e. social-cultural, economics, political-legal, natural and technological factors and to analyze their industry and company and are able to manage successfully by proactively bringing about changes that are appropriate to their business. Two learning objectives are:
    4.1 Students demonstrate quantitative analytical skills, communication skills and technological abilities to make changes.
    4.2 Students can demonstrate their leadership skills to implement the changes for an organization.

II. MSc in FIRM Learning Goals and Learning Objectives

  1. Problem solving skills. Students should be equipped with knowledge to understand and analyze macro-environment affecting business, industry and organizations and are able to apply the knowledge to solve problems in finance. Two learning objectives for this learning goal are:
    1.1 Students can pinpoint problematic areas and analyze the root cause of the problems.
    1.2 Students demonstrate the abilities to provide short-term and long-term solutions.
  2. Ethics. Students should always focus on good corporate governance practices, business ethics and corporate social responsibility on various stakeholders of the corporation. Two learning objectives are:
    2.1 Students demonstrate concern of business ethics and can apply code of conducts and good corporate governance practices in doing business.
    2.2 Students demonstrate concern for the society and can initiate CSR activities.
  3. Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) examination preparation. To help students obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) license. The learning objective is for the students pass the CFA Examinations.
  4. Financial Risk Manager® (FRM®) examination preparation. To help students obtain the Financial Risk Manager® (FRM®) license. The learning objective is for the students pass the FRM Examinations.

III. Learning Goals and Learning Objectives

  1. Acquisition of advanced knowledge and theoretical understanding. Student should be equipped with advanced knowledge and theoretical understanding in their field of expertise. The learning objective is for all student to demonstrate theoretical understanding.
  2. Competence in research methodology. Students should have competence in their research methodology sufficient to conduct a knowledge enquiry by themselves and communicate the research results clearly and precisely. The learning objective is to demonstrate competence in the appropriate research methodology.
  3. Contribution to the body of knowledge. Students should be able to demonstrate their capability to produce intellectual contributions to the advanced knowledge in their field of study. The learning objective is that every student is expected to have one peer-reviewed publication derived from his or her dissertation as a requirement for graduation.
